“A politician thinks about the next election. A statesman, the next generation.”
James Freeman Clark (1870)
The School of Statesmanship at Ascension University is focused on the characteristic qualities of true Statesmen.
Consider the Qualities of a True Statesman
- Service Minded
- Creative Vision
- Pervasive Integrity
- Civil Communicator
- Wise Leadership
- Thoughtful Deliberator
- Principled Compromise
The above list represent the minimum ideals of a true statesman (or woman). The individual will be stronger in some and weaker in others, yet as they strive for these ideals by serving the public they will sculpt a unique value proposition. Other positive qualities can and should be added to the list depending on the unique nature of the individual personality. The more harmonious the blend of these values in a person’s heart and mind, the more effectively will they be able to serve.
